How big is League of Legends? The game takes up **22-24 GB** of storage after a full installation in 2026\. The initial download is smaller at **9-10 GB**, but the client unpacks and patches additional files during setup.

Riot's official minimum is 16 GB of free space, but the actual install is 22+ GB. Plan for at least **25 GB free** to leave room for patches.

The installation happens in parts:

1. Download the Riot Games client (\~65 MB)
2. The client downloads the full game (\~9-10 GB)
3. Log in to your account
4. The client unpacks and installs the rest. Final size on disk is 22-24 GB

League gets patched every two weeks. Most patches are **100-400 MB**. Larger updates with new champions or events can reach 500 MB-1 GB. Your install size creeps up a few GB over months of patches, so if you're seeing 25-28 GB after a while, that's normal.

A clean [reinstall](https://blog.loltheory.gg/how-to-uninstall-league-of-legends/) brings it back to \~22 GB. The [built-in repair tool](https://blog.loltheory.gg/how-to-repair-league-of-legends/) can also free up some space without a full reinstall.

## How to Reduce LoL File Size

The most reliable method is a clean reinstall: [uninstall League](https://blog.loltheory.gg/how-to-uninstall-league-of-legends/), delete the leftover Riot Games folder, and reinstall. This resets your install to \~22 GB. If you don't want to go that far, the [built-in repair tool](https://blog.loltheory.gg/how-to-repair-league-of-legends/) can reclaim some space by clearing corrupted or redundant files. Running low on your primary drive? You can also [move League to another drive](https://blog.loltheory.gg/how-to-move-league-of-legends-to-another-drive/) without reinstalling.

League is small compared to most modern games — many titles now need 50-100+ GB. If you're unsure whether your PC can run it, see the full [system requirements guide](https://blog.loltheory.gg/do-you-need-a-good-pc-to-play-lol/).
